Media assessment 1: Learner response
1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).
WWW: Brilliant first assessment, Scarlett. It is clear to see that you have prepared well for this. Really strong response for the unseen media product analysis.
EBI: More emphasis on the mise-en-scene used for the water aid advert. Not enough for question- lacking detail. This could be an issue with timing.
2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Write down the mark you achieved for each question:Q3: 7/12 • Good analysis of the product that is clear and generally engages with the nuanced aspects of how design and layout are used. = Needs to constantly engage with the nuanced aspects of how design and layout are used
• Focus on meanings created by different elements of design and layout is mostly effective although lacks clarity in places. = Needs more clarity and explanation of effect
• Mostly appropriate and effective use of subject specific terminology. = needs to be be completely appropriate and effective
Q4: 2/2 AO1a Demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical framework of media studiesQ5: 3/6 • Satisfactory knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework, demonstrated by generally effective explanation effects of camera shots and mise-en-scene. = Add a more effective explanation of mise-en-scene

• Limited appropriate reference to the Water Aid advert. = add more appropriate references
• Little, if any, use of media terminology throughout. = Use more media terminology
3) Identify one of your stronger questions. Why did you do better on this question? Use the mark scheme to help you with this.
One of my stronger questions was question 3. This might be because it was focused on the meanings created by the design and layout.
4) Identify one of your weaker questions. Why did you score lower on this particular question? Use the mark scheme to help you with this.
4) Identify one of your weaker questions. Why did you score lower on this particular question? Use the mark scheme to help you with this.
One of my weaker questions was question 6. This might be because I struggled to add appropriate references and infer context from the advert and apply my answer to the effect on audiences.
5) Finally, write a new, detailed paragraph for Question 3 - the unseen text 12 mark question. Use the mark scheme to identify anticipated content you can add to your response and make sure you refer to the text and write in detail.
The title (symbolic code) "HEAT" is written in capital letters with a large red font. This links to the brand identity of the perfume bottle. The low camera angle (non-verbal/ technical code) is used to show that she is above them and really powerful. Her position and stance also reveals dominance an confidence which reinforces her celebrity status. The lighting (technical code) emphasises high-key on her appearance which is contrasted to the dimly lit background. Producers use Beyoncé as central image because she is leading the campaign/ advertisement.
