Comments for AQA:

  • The statement of intent is clear, and the intentions are always appropriate to the brief, and it explicitly mentions how their music video has a promotional campaign element to improving the quality of life in the community
  • As the production focuses on the sexualisation of women in the community – the representation section is a real strength as it comments on the characters demographics and how and why they are communicating this

Next steps:

  • Consider being more explicit in places of your statement such as where exactly you are choosing to film and why. Really consider your target audience and why this music video could appeal to them?

Redraft

The song I will be using is "Pretty Distraction" by SkyDxddy is primarily alt-pop, with influences from pop, soul, and R&B. My video will include a story about the sexualisation of women a few shots intended to evoke emotion and a few clips with performance based elements. My music video intends to highlight the need for respect for women to improve the community at large. 50

I will include camera work by having a lot of different angles and movement (more specific). I will have different lighting for different clips however as i filmed mainly outside there wont be much difference (natural light). I have filmed mainly in Northalia Fields park to represent that it can happen anywhere and the public/lack of privacy element to it. I have also filmed in a classroom to demonstrate that boys need to be taught from a young age about the way they should treat women and filmed with high school student to suggest that these issues can occur early in life. I will include a diagetic sound of a siren to connote danger and the non-diagetic sound of the music.
It will present women as a gender who feels the need to hide and is sexualised. It presents young people as scared and naive. whilst also as young women as having lost their innocence too young. I will shoot in public settings to show how it effects everyone.

I will add text that talks about having respect to improve the community. It will challenge stereotypes as it will present women as brave. However it will reinforce stereotypes as it will present men as the gender that sexualises the other gender. It also reinforces stereotypes as it only presents straight relationships. It is also reinforces by my use of Propps character theory as i present the woman as a princess and the man as a villain. To demonstrate how this issue has been around for a long time i have reflected some similar stereotypes by having the protagonist be from a white British background and having the villain be from an Indian background. It may attract the struggler as they see themselves as victims which is what i am presenting woman as. It may also appeal to the reformer as they want to better themselves. 121

The target audience of my music video is feminists as the message i am trying get through in my music video is a feminist one. It will also target men trying to inspire them to not be like the people that do this to women. It will also target women as they will be able to relate to this video and likely be happy that this message is getting out there and will be happy at the chance of the community improving after people have seen this video. I will use voyeuristic pleasure as there are elements of real life throughout. They can get information from this about how to improve life in their community. They can create personal relationships with the characters and also maybe be able to relate to them. I will include Todorovs equilibrium theory by having a message at the end to make a resolution as people are now educated on the topic. 153
