1) Write the definition of the following key language for newspaper front pages (you may want to add an example for each from our Daily Mirror CSP):

Masthead: The title of a newspaper
Pug: The main story title
Splash Head: Word added which is an important part of the story

Dateline: The date the newspaper was released

2) What is the main story on the CSP edition of the Daily Mirror (see above)? Make sure you learn the headline and what the story is about.

3) What is the 'pug' or smaller celebrity story on the front cover? Why might it appeal to Daily Mirror readers?

"The real secret of traitors hero" - suggests a scandal and mystery about a celebrity readers may know

4) Why is the choice of news stories, content and page design on the Mirror CSP front page typical of a tabloid newspaper?

It includes minimal writing multiple pictures and celebrities.

5) What is the balance on the Daily Mirror front page between images, headlines and text?

There is a larger amount of pictures than writing and a lot of the text is in a large font to stand out and appeal to audiences

Representations

1) What political party does the Daily Mirror support? Is there any evidence to support this in the CSP pages we have studied?

Labour which is emphasised by their criticism of how conservative party dealt with this situation and a mention of how the CEO of the company donated to conservative party.

2) How does the Daily Mirror represent the Post Office in the CSP pages? Why do you think they present them in this way?

It represents the post office executives as naive as they did not realise what was going on. It represents the company they hired as villains as it hurt the workers who are portrayed as innocent victims.

3) How is Fujitsu represented in the Daily Mirror CSP pages? Look particularly at the use of images on the front cover and the section on Fujitsu on the inside page. Give detailed answers with evidence from the CSP pages.

Fujitsu is represented s an evil villain which committed fraud and harmed a lot of people/workers.
It is written in red.

4) How are the Conservative Party represented in the Daily Mirror? Again, provide evidence from the CSP pages to support your answers.

The conservative party are represented as gullible and shameful as they received donations from the CEO of the company and they did not handle the situation in the way that they should have.

5) Read the main articles on the inside pages. How are different people, groups and organisations represented in the Daily Mirror? Does this reinforce or subvert the stereotypes we usually see in the media?

It represents the post office executives as naive as they did not realise what was going on. It represents the company they hired as villains as it hurt the workers who are portrayed as innocent victims. Fujitsu is represented s an evil villain which committed fraud and harmed a lot of people/workers.The conservative party are represented as gullible and shameful as they received donations from the CEO of the company and they did not handle the situation in the way that they should have. Peter and Marion are presented as victims of the tragedy as peter lost his life and Marion lost the man she loves. Paula Vennells is represented as disgraced and shameful as she had to give back her CBE after the scandal.
