Final statement of intent

The song I will be using is "Pretty Distraction" by SkyDxddy is primarily alt-pop, with influences from pop, soul, and R&B. My video will include a story about the sexualisation of women a few shots intended to evoke emotion and a few clips with performance based elements. My music video intends to highlight the need for respect for women in order to improve life in the community.

I will include camera work by having a lot of different angles and movement like panning and low angle. I will have different lighting for different clips however as I filmed mainly outside there wont be much difference (natural light). I have filmed in a busy park to demonstrate that it can happen in public settings with lots of people around yet people still do nothing. I will include a diegetic sound of a siren to connote danger and the non-diegetic sound of the music. It will present women as a gender who feels the need to hide and is sexualised. It presents young people as scared and naive. whilst also as young women as having lost their innocence too young. I will also shoot on public walkways and classrooms to show how it effects everyone.

I will add text (Think about your actions Up to 97% of women aged 18-24 have experienced sexual harassment in public spaces 58% of women have experienced sexual harassment bullying, or verbal abuse at work) to inform people of the size of this issue and persuade them to change. It will challenge stereotypes as it will present women as brave. However it will reinforce stereotypes as it will present men as the gender that sexualises the other gender. It also reinforces stereotypes as it only presents straight relationships. It is also reinforces by my use of Propp's character theory as I present the woman as a princess and the man as a villain. To demonstrate how this issue has been around for a long time I have reflected some similar stereotypes by having the protagonist be from a white British background and having the villain be from an Indian background. However, I am also subverting stereotypes by featuring pictures of women who are people of colour to demonstrate that this effects everyone not just white British women. My music video may attract the 'struggler' as they see themselves as victims which is what I am presenting woman as. It may also appeal to the 'reformer' as they want to better themselves.

The target audience of my music video is young adult women who are feminists. This is because my message is that women shouldn't have to go through things like this and men need to stop to improve life in the community. It will also target young men in an attempt to inspire them to not do this to women. It will also target women as they will be able to relate to this video and likely be reassured that this message is getting out there. I will use voyeuristic pleasure as there are elements of real life throughout. They can get information from this about how to improve life in their community. They can create personal relationships with the characters and also maybe be able to relate to them. I will include Todorov's equilibrium theory by having a message at the end to make a resolution as people are now educated on the topic.
