Camera movement and editing

 1) Pick three aspects of camera movement in the Minority Report clip. Identify the type of camera movement and write about why the director chose to use that camera movement in the scene and what effect it has on the audience.

They use crane movement when they are flying towards him. One reason thy use this might be to show that they are ore important that him and that he is weak and inferior. Another reason they use this might be to display what is happening as it gives you a clear view of where everyone is and the setting in the scene.

They use pan when he is looking at the fence. One reason for this might be to show the two characters different emotions as one is disappointed and trying to figure out what to do but the other is glad but calm. Another reason might be so that you can try and predict what is going to happen because it shows the man then the women then the weapon she is holding suggesting conflict. A third reason might be to add urgency and tension to the scene as you can see what is going to happen but you are just left in suspense.

They use pan when the family are sitting at the dinner table. One reason for this might be to show that the family are confused and feel uneasy. Another reason might be to show that this is not a normal occurrence as the audience can predict what is about to happen.

2) Pick two aspects of editing in the Minority Report clip and write about what effect it has on the audience.

They use juxtaposition a lot to show the difference between the man and the people chasing him as it is often switching between looking at him and them.

In some parts of the clip it is very fast pace as the different shots build tension and by switching between them quickly the tension builds even stronger.

3) Finally, revise last week's work on camerawork by picking out two shots or camera angles in the clip that communicate meaning to the audience.

At the beginning there is an extreme close up on a futuristic looking camera. This suggests that this film is set in a dystopian future. It also suggests that the camera is going to see someone or something that someone will need to stop.

At the beginning there is also a over the shoulder shot which is used to show that the man is wanted. This helps build tension as you now know that this guy knows about him. It also develops the audiences understanding as we now know that he is a criminal and used to work for precrime which are the people looking for him.
