Independent cinema films are made on a smaller budget and by smaller companies than Hollywood blockbusters.

A man who can't work after a heart attack and has to get money from the government, comes across a struggling single mother and leads a one-man crusade for compassion.


3) Who directed I, Daniel Blake and why is this important?


Ken Loach and he is important because he brings director power as he is a famous director.


4) How was I, Daniel Blake promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign and how they targeted their audience.


Organise fee ('pay what you can') screenings - which would mean that people the film would relate to can get in                                        for free and others might pay more than a normal ticket to get in.

The film was premiered in Newcastle - this was good because it was where the film was set and the people in                                   Newcastle might come because they feel special as it premiered there

Loach appeared on BBC question time - this would open the film up to a larger variety of viewers who might then                                  want to see it


5) What unusual or creative marketing methods were used to get audiences talking about the film?


They used disruptive marketing by projected the name of the film onto the houses of parliament (guerrilla marketing).

The estimated budget for the film was £2 million and it made £11 million meaning that they made a profit of £9 million.

One of the companies involved in funding I Daniel Blake was the BFI.

The BBFC is the UK film regulator and it gave the film a rating of 15.

The film contained strong language

I think the film was a success. This is because it made a profit of more than four times what it cost. Also it made a large profit based on the fact it is an independent film.
